Erin Smart, an education solicitor leads a talk on School Exclusion and the Law, helping parents to understand their legal rights and preventing illegal discrimination of children with disabilities.
Erin Smart is a qualified education solicitor, heading Irwin Mitchell’s Public Law Human Rights Gatwick team. She specialises in assisting parents, carers and young people with appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (“SEND”) Tribunal. She is familiar with the duties of the Local Authority to provide for children and young people with SEND and is individually recommended in the Legal 500 independent guide to the best lawyers in the country for having a “track record in SEN tribunal claims”.
Erin is keen to ensure that parents, carers and young people know their rights in relation to the support that is available to them and has delivered training to a number of charities and schools to ensure that children with SEND are supported in their education. She also provides training and representation to schools and education professionals who are defending against claims, challenging funding decisions, facing regulatory investigation or in disputes about SEN provisions. Erin is a member of the Irwin Mitchell national Public Law Human Rights award nominated team. The team is regarded as one of the best in the country by legal directories, and highly praised by a number of charities, advocacy organisations as well as clients.
