Parent/Carer's Offer 

SEN Explained Speaker Series

Each month we will host a virtual presenter from the field of SEN for our speaker series. Our intent is to move the needle forward for more intersectional and progressive conversations.

Our speaker series focuses on several themes, with examples of topics below:

Society 
Gender, Sexuality, Mental Health, Masking, Identity, Late diagnosis, Trauma and Stigma.

Education and employment 
Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP’s), Employment, Reasonable adjustment and discrimination, advocacy, family life and transition to adulthood. 

Understanding lived experience 
Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD/ADHD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), the medical model of disability vs biopsychosocial, interoception and body awareness, support strategies and techniques, inclusion, and person-centred practice.  

Our speakers have first-hand knowledge and experience across special educational needs. We want to share their expertise to impact not only our families, but educators, academics, voluntary and statutory sector professionals, and the public for a more holistic understanding of SEN. 

Price: £5.00 entry

Parent Space Counselling
(Remote service)

The program offers a block of 6-8 solution-based therapy sessions. Our trained integrative therapists will focus on supporting parents to find working solutions to improve their overall well-being, decrease stress and anxiety, and develop coping strategies to find achieve balance.

Price: £10.00 per session  
Counselling referral is required.   

Respite and community
(Holiday programmes)

Respite days out and activities for the entire family to enjoy safe, structured time together with like-minded peers.

Coffee Mornings

Monthly at John Morris House SW11 1SW

Our coffee morning sessions provide an opportunity for parents and carers raising children/young people with ASD, ADHD, and other SEND (special education needs and/or disabilities) to meet and connect with other families who have similar life experiences and/or challenges. This group thrives on mutual support. Each peer session can vary, sometimes for an informal get-together or catch up, and others for a theme-based dialogue.

All sessions are led by our Parent Project Lead, Valenza Stearns, and Patricia Strbova, Children & Family Support worker who are always on hand to answer questions or give practical support.

Information Mornings 

Monthly Virtual

Our information morning sessions provide an opportunity for parents and carers to reduce gaps in their knowledge and increase capacities around SEN.

Attendees will have access to speakers who have first-hand experience across special educational needs. We want to share their expertise to impact not only our families, but educators, academics, voluntary and statutory sector professionals, and the public for a more holistic understanding of SEN.
